The Format
The Symphonic Jukebox turns a public square into an open-air symphonic concert experience. The audience chooses via touchscreen, the host bridges the gaps with fun facts, and the orchestra plays live.
01 Choose
Passers-by choose the next piece on the touchscreen, from a catalogue ranging from the Baroque to the present day.
02 Play
The orchestra plays the most representative excerpt of the work – and after just a few minutes, it’s on to the next one.
03 Experience
Fun facts, questions from the audience, voices from the orchestra – and anyone who dares can take their turn on the conductor’s podium.

In summer 2025, the Symphonic Jukebox premiered as a pilot with the orchestra of the Lucerne Festival Academy. The following year, 2026, Lucerne Festival brought the format back – with new features, a new design and additional works from the festival programme – as part of its new series ‘In the Streets: City Stage’.
