patchworkconcerts
Music that opens up as it is played
Hear more – patch by patch
Said and played: from the smallest motif to a grand passage, patch by patch you hear live what makes a masterpiece special. Presentation and musical examples interlock: with these musical signposts in your ear, the music is easier to follow – and you dive deeper.
Why “Patchwork”?
Like a patchwork, a masterpiece is made of many elements: motifs, harmonies, tone colours, transformations. We take them one at a time, play them and show how they form a great whole. At the end the complete work is performed – and everyone hears it with new ears.
For whom
For everyone who is curious – no prior knowledge needed. First-time concertgoers find a way in; long-time music lovers discover something new. Also ideal for school classes, families and mixed audiences.
Who
Joseph Sieber leads the Patchwork Concerts as conductor, pianist and presenter, with grand piano and/or orchestra depending on the programme. On request, finished scripts and sheet music are also available to other performers.
Inspiration
From 1958, Leonard Bernstein’s “Young People’s Concerts” showed how gripping and successful it can be to explain music with music. Joseph Sieber has worked with similar means since the start of his career – and takes up the questions today’s audiences ask.
